What is Tsuji-Ura game?
Japan is filled with some amazing urban legends and urban legend based games, that are scary enough to send chills through your spine. Tsuji-Ura is one of such games, that is something similar to “Fortune Cookies”. This game basically tells you about your future fortunes, supposedly most of which are really dark. The game is not just existent in japan, but in Europe as well with the name of “Crossroads Divination”.
The reality of this game is widely debated. Nonetheless let’s see what this is all about?

A thing about the “Crossroads”
Crossroads have always been a fascinating and supernatural thing in various cultures. In many cultures crossroads are the place where werewolves transform. It is said that the boundaries are thin at the crossroads. Crossroads are liminal spaces, thresholds, and gateways to other worlds where magic has more power. The crossroads are a meeting point of two directions, where the traveler makes a decision of which way to go, that supposedly changes the fortune here. Taking the instance of one of the most known stories from “Crossroads Folklore” we come across the interesting story Robert Johnson.
The story says Robert Johnson was a young blues player who wanted musical fame. One night Robert heard voices saying him to bring his guitar to the cross roads at midnight. As he stood there waiting, a tall dark man walked up to Robert and told him he could exchange fame for his soul. Then as Robert agreed, the stranger took his guitar and tuned it. After that when Robert played it immediately he played some amazing licks, when he looked up the stranger was gone. The exchange was successful. Many such stories are there regarding crossroads, we will discuss them later. Now let’s jump right into the story.
How To Play the game
Requirements : The game needs a single player to play and needs a cross road. You will also need something to cover your face and a comb. Additional requirements, well some patience, maybe some courage?
Steps to play the game :
- The game is to be started at midnight, so better start it a bit early to be on time. Make sure you are mentally prepared for the event.
- Go to the crossroads, take all the items as you got. Try doing it in a relatively low population area, where less cars travel.
- Bring the comb near to your face and and cover it. Then make the comb speak, strum its teeth with your finger three times.
- Repeat the following words three times “Tsuji-ura, tsuji-ura, grant me a true response”
- Now we wait. Wait patiently for a long while if needed.
The game is this much, now comes the more serious part, the outcomes and what to do in which case.
What happens after that?
There can be three major cases:
What about this stranger?
This stranger is now the main character, if he/she/it/they (presuming all other genders) arrives. As soon as the stranger approaches we need to cover our face, failing to do so might result in serious harmful consequences. Until the stranger leaves we can’t remove the cover off our face. Now again we can have three cases with the stranger. First of all we need to be extremely polite with our approach and request about our fortune. Never demand.
What about the bystanders?
The bystanders are also a part of the game. They are expected to be extremely quiet. They need to keep their faces covered the entire time. Failing to do so can result in serious consequences. They do not need to keep comb, but they should not anyhow interfere into the game.
Conclusion
The reality of the game is unknown. Not many true cases have been recorded yet. In my opinion I think it can be a true game. What I hear is that most people who get responses are generally very dark, and something that is very unsettling. Others report that nothing happens in the game and no one comes. Anyhow we don’t recommend playing this game🙃.
